How cutting out certain foods can trigger new allergies

Food elimination diets are popular for managing conditions like IBS and celiac disease. But experts say they can backfire—and the safest approach depends on how allergic you are.

🍞 Taking away foods for too long can cause trouble If you stop eating certain foods, your body might forget they're safe, and you could become allergic to them later.

🛡️ Your tummy helps train your body Eating small amounts of many foods helps your body learn they're not dangerous, so it doesn't overreact.

👩‍⚕️ People with allergies need to be careful Kids and adults who already have things like eczema, asthma, or past allergies have a higher risk of getting new allergies if they cut foods out.

📆 Don't wait too long If you try removing a food, only do it for a short time (like 2–4 weeks) so your body doesn't lose its "memory" of that food.

🥛 Sometimes a little is better than none. If a food causes mild problems, eating small amounts might keep your body used to it while still helping you feel better.

Italy exhibition explores how sound helps us to savour food

An exhibition in northern Italy is expanding traditional ideas about taste by exploring how sound influences the way people experience their food.

🍎 The museum in Trento, Italy, shows how sounds like crunches and sizzling change the way food tastes and feels.

🎧 Scientists explain that our brain listens to food noises, which can make things seem fresher, yummier, or even more fun.

🍟 In one experiment, potato chips tasted crispier when their crunch sound was made louder.

🎶 Visitors try cool activities, like choosing food just by listening to sounds, or eating in rooms with different music.

🍫 Companies are now making snacks that crackle or crunch on purpose, because people enjoy food more when it sounds exciting.s, like choosing food just by listening to sounds, or eating in rooms with different music.

Scientists finally know where potatoes come from—and the answer is very weird

New research traces the genetic ancestry of the popular root vegetable to a brief plant romance millions of years ago.

🍅 A long time ago (about 8–9 million years!), a tomato like plant and another plant had a “plant romance,” and together they made the very first potato!

🥔 Scientists discovered that potatoes belong to the same plant family as tomatoes, peppers, and eggplants they’re like plant cousins.

🧬 By studying plant DNA, scientists found out that potatoes got special genes from tomatoes and another plant that let them grow yummy underground tubers.

🌱 Today, scientists want to grow potatoes from seeds (instead of just pieces) so they can make stronger, healthier potatoes that don’t get sick as easily.

🥗 Potatoes are now one of the world’s most important foods and all thanks to that ancient tomato family tree!

Eating the food on your plate in a certain order is better for your health—here's why

Research increasingly suggests that nutrient sequencing—eating macronutrients like protein and fiber in a particular order—can benefit everyone.

🥦 If you start by eating vegetables and fruits first, then eat protein like chicken, fish, or eggs, and finally finish with bread, rice, or pasta, it can help your body work better.

🍎 Eating food in this order can help your body have steady energy during the day so that you don’t feel sleepy or tired after.

💪 Following this way of eating helps kids and adults stay healthy and strong because it keeps the sugar in your blood from going up and down too quickly.

🥗 When you start with vegetables, they fill up your stomach with healthy fiber and water, so you feel full faster and don’t eat too many snacks or sweets.

🥕 You can do this at breakfast, lunch, and dinner, and the good thing is that you don’t need to eat less food, you just change the order of how you eat it.

1
Veggies First

Start with vegetables and fruits

2
Protein Second

Next eat chicken, fish, or eggs

3
Carbs Last

Finish with bread, rice, or pasta

What is healthier a sausage or burger? The best and worst BBQ foods by the experts

Barbecues could be a golden opportunity to eat well – but most of us are getting it badly wrong.

🧂 Too much salt and fat isn't good! Hot dogs, burgers, and sauces can have too much salt and fat, which isn't great for your heart and tummy.

🍗 Choose better meats! Instead of only sausages and burgers, try chicken, turkey, or fish like salmon they're yummier and healthier!

🥦 Don't forget the veggies! Grill colorful vegetables like corn, peppers, and mushrooms. Your belly bugs (gut bacteria) love them!

🥫 Go easy on sugary sauces and drinks! Store-bought sauces and soda can have lots of sugar. Try making your own sauces or drink water with fruit!

🎉 Barbecues can still be fun! You don't have to skip all the treats just eat a little bit of the not so healthy stuff, and lots of the good stuff too!

The story behind Caesar salad

Caesar salad celebrates its 101st birthday in July 2025. We look at the origins of the popular dish — surprisingly, it doesn’t involve a certain Roman emperor.

🥗 The Caesar Salad Isn’t from a Roman Emperor!
Even though it’s called Caesar salad, it wasn’t made by Julius Caesar! It was invented by a chef named Caesar Cardini in Mexico in 1924 on a very busy day when the restaurant was low on food!

👨‍🍳 It Was Made with Leftovers and a Show
Chef Caesar grabbed what he had left, lettuce, eggs, garlic, lemon, and cheese and made a salad right in front of the guests. It was so fun and tasty, people loved it!

🎥 Movie Stars Made It Famous
Famous actors and even a food TV star came to try the salad. It became super popular in America and around the world!

🍋 It’s All About the Ingredients
The real Caesar salad has romaine lettuce, crunchy garlic croutons, and a special dressing with egg yolks, anchovies, mustard, lemon, and parmesan cheese.

🍴 You Can Still Try It in Cool Places
Some restaurants still make it the old-fashioned way in front of you! You can try special versions in Tijuana, San Diego, or LA with fun twists like spicy salt or grilled lemon!

Your favorite Fourth of July foods were invented by immigrants

Foods like hot dogs, hamburgers, and potato salad have become menu essentials at Independence Day cookouts across the country—but their origins actually hail from all around the world.

🍔 Burgers came from Germany!
Even though we love eating burgers on the Fourth of July, they actually started in Germany and before that, ancient Rome made something similar with meat and nuts!

🌭 Hot dogs are from Germany too!
German people brought sausages to the U.S., and one guy even put them in a bun so people didn’t need plates! Now we eat millions of hot dogs every July 4th.

🥔 Potato salad started in Peru and got yummy in Germany!
Potatoes were first grown in Peru, but Germans made one of the first potato salads. Later, Americans added things like mayo, eggs, and pickles to make it even tastier!

🍺 Beer is super old!
Beer has been around for thousands of years. Even George Washington made it! People drink it a lot during July 4th celebrations now.

🎆 Most Fourth of July food came from other countries!
Even though we think burgers, hot dogs, and potato salad are "American," they actually came from all over the world but now they're part of our big party!
